It’s becoming increasingly important that we be conscious of our energy use. So much of the energy we use is wasted as a result of leaving electronics on when we’re not using them or not knowing that a device is even using energy. Not only is wasting energy bad for our planet and health, but it also wastes money, and forces us to constantly be plugging our devices into a charger.
There are many ways that you can “go green” at SnapSuites. Check them out!
- Here at SnapSuites, we have amazing natural light. If it’s a nice day-loose the lamps! Considering that 35% of energy usage in U.S. offices comes from lighting, this small flip of a switch can make a big difference.
- Additionally in the lighting department-we only use LED lighting. Not only do LED lights consume 75% less energy than traditional light bulbs, but they also last 25 times longer. Our LED lights are also controlled by motion sensors, so even if you forget to switch off your lights at the end of the day, they won’t stay on, wasting energy all night.
- Change the settings on your computer to sleep mode. I’m certainly guilty of walking away from my computer for long periods of time without putting it to sleep and cringe thinking about the carbon dioxide being emitted during this time.
- Recycle, recycle, recycle! Recycling is probably the easiest way to go green at SnapSuites. For every trash bin we provide, we also provide a recycling bin. Toss papers, water bottles, and boxes in the blue bin, and we will take care of the rest! With little effort, you can do your part in protecting our planet.
- Unplug phone and computer chargers when they’re not being used. A Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory 2012 study proved “that an idle charger drew 0.26 watts on average; this figure goes up to 3.68 watts when a phone is attached and charging, and drops down to 2.24 watts when the phone is attached and fully charged.” Also, know that your charge will not last any longer if you keep it plugged in after the battery has reached 100%.
- Fair trade products not only provide farmers and producers fair pay and working conditions, but the ways in which these products are produced are better for our environment. At SnapSuites, we purchase Peet’s coffee, which is certified sustainable. So, no legwork is necessary for you on this one- we’ve got it covered!
- Our coffee machines at SnapSuites use a reverse French press system that specifically grinds beans for each coffee order. We prefer this system over most single cup brewing systems as it produces a better tasting coffee with zero waste.
We hope you’ve enjoyed these tips and tricks, now it’s time to put them into action!
